🎭 Theatrical rescue

Franklin County • March 17, 2025

Good morning, Franklin County. When the curtain nearly fell on the Contemporary Theatre of Ohio's production of "FAT HAM," local heroes stepped into the spotlight. The Kitchen co-owners Anne Boninsegna and Jen Lindsey transformed from restaurateurs to arts patrons overnight, replacing a frozen $10,000 grant to ensure the Pulitzer Prize-winning reimagining of Hamlet could take center stage. Their generous intervention proves that in Franklin County, creativity finds a way to flourish even when facing unexpected obstacles.

Meanwhile, leadership development is brewing in Youngstown as the Ohio Chamber brings its CEO Forum to the Mahoning Valley, and folk-rock fans have a date to circle on their calendars. Grammy winner Ray LaMontagne will transport audiences back to 2004 this September at Mershon Auditorium, performing his debut album "Trouble" in its entirety. Mark March 19 for presale tickets with code "FUNKY" – a fitting descriptor for our vibrant arts and business community.

☕️ What's Brewing Locally

🎭 Local restaurant owners save play after $10,000 grant freezes. Anne Boninsegna and Jen Lindsey, co-owners of The Kitchen, donated funds to ensure Contemporary Theatre of Ohio could present "FAT HAM," a Pulitzer Prize-winning reimagining of Hamlet. The NEA grant was frozen due to federal executive orders, threatening the production that explores themes of inclusion and identity. The Kitchen, which specializes in participatory dining experiences, stepped in based on shared values of bringing people together around food. Theatre director Christy Farnbauch called the donation a "testament to what happens when a community values and supports the arts."
