🍔 Carhop Comeback

Franklin County • February 20, 2025

Good morning, Franklin County. After 90 years of carhops and signature burgers, Swensons is finally parking its drive-in model at the soccer stadium. The beloved Ohio chain's arrival at Lower.com Field feels like a match made in comfort food heaven - especially when missed penalty kicks mean free Teezers for everyone. It's the kind of culinary plot twist that makes Columbus sports even more delicious.

Meanwhile, the leadership landscape is shifting faster than a soccer ball across midfield. While U.S. Attorney Kenneth Parker's office faces transition amid Trump's Justice Department shake-up, Zora's House founder LC Johnson is scoring big wins on national TV. Her Kelly Clarkson Show appearance helped secure the final million needed for their new space - proving that in Franklin County, some changes bring uncertainty while others bring opportunity.

☕️ What's Brewing Locally

🍔 Ohio's beloved drive-in chain Swensons ditches cars for stadium crowds. The 90-year-old burger institution is launching its first-ever concession stand at Columbus' Lower.com Field, home of the Crew soccer team. Fans can now enjoy signature items like the Galley Boy Burger and Crispy Potato Teezers while watching matches. The partnership includes creative fan promotions, including free Teezers when opposing teams miss penalty kicks. This collaboration marks a significant departure from Swensons' traditional drive-in model while staying true to its Ohio roots.

⚖️ Trump fires all Biden-era U.S. Attorneys in sweeping Justice Department purge. U.S. Attorney Kenneth Parker, Cincinnati's top federal prosecutor since 2021, was among those terminated as Trump declared a mission to "clean house" in the justice system. Parker's deputy, Kelly Norris, will serve as acting U.S. Attorney until Trump appoints a replacement. During his tenure, Parker oversaw major corruption cases, including prosecutions of Cincinnati City Council members and former Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder. The office, with 135 employees, will now await new leadership from Trump's administration.

Zora's House, a co-working space and incubator for women leaders, opened its new building at 1393 N. 4th St in August. The nonprofit continues to empower women leaders throughout Columbus while gaining national recognition.
