🥪 Sandwich Superiority

Franklin County • January 15, 2025

Good morning, Franklin County. Move over, Philadelphia - Columbus is stepping into the sandwich spotlight. Our own Wario's Beef & Pork just landed on Infatuation's list of America's 18 best sandwiches, proving that sometimes the path to national recognition is paved with housemade cheese whiz and perfectly grilled ribeye. It's the kind of validation that makes you want to high-five every local foodie who's been singing their praises since 2020.

Speaking of local excellence, Dr. Nathaniel Long just joined an elite club of shoulder and elbow surgical experts that's more exclusive than a Supreme Court nomination - only 318 active members worldwide. Meanwhile, downtown Columbus is adding another jewel to its crown as a historic 1920s jewelry store transforms into "Artisans &," promising to bring globally-curated treasures to North High Street. Because in Franklin County, we're always raising the bar - one sandwich, surgery, or artisanal ceramic at a time.

☕️ What's Brewing Locally

🏥 Columbus surgeon joins elite group of shoulder and elbow experts. Dr. Nathaniel K Long of OhioHealth has been elected as an active member of the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) society, becoming one of only five members in Columbus. The recognition places him among just 318 active members worldwide and marks him as a leading expert in shoulder and elbow surgery. Dr. Long, who helped develop an FDA-approved stemless total shoulder system, will now serve on committees and mentor younger surgeons. His expertise is already making a difference, as evidenced by patient Bill Jingo's successful shoulder replacement surgery using the innovative implant system Dr. Long helped create.

🏺 Historic jewelry store transforms into artisanal home decor haven downtown. Brooks William and his mother Lisa Barger are bringing their handcrafted home goods concept "Artisans &" to a 1920s art deco building on North High Street in Columbus. The store, opening March 2025, will feature globally-sourced handmade items from ceramics to linens, sourced from makers in Brooklyn to Warsaw. William, who moved from NYC specifically for this venture, chose Columbus over saturated markets like New York and LA, seeing an opportunity to fill a genuine need. The renovation has already uncovered original marble and terrazzo floors in the historic space, which once housed The Loftis Brothers Co. jewelry store.

🥪 Columbus sandwich shop joins elite ranks of America's tastiest sandwiches. The national food publication Infatuation has named Wario's Beef & Pork's signature steak sandwich as one of the country's 18 best sandwiches. The local favorite features eight ounces of quality rib-eye and housemade cheese whiz on a soft semolina roll, rivaling iconic sandwiches from New York and Philadelphia. Wario's, which opened its first location in 2020, has been so successful that it recently expanded with a second location in Clintonville. Though their massive sandwiches run $13-19, locals say the hefty portions justify the price tag.
