Good morning, Fayette County. August 31st has been officially proclaimed Overdose Awareness Day, bringing a powerful reminder that behind every statistic is a human story. Highland County is responding with heart through a series of community events including a memorial service on August 28 featuring speakers, resources, and support. The Kristen Cannon Memorial Run/Walk and Adam's Hope Walk will further honor lives lost while connecting those in need with vital recovery services – showing how communities heal together through both remembrance and action.

Meanwhile, the next generation of agricultural enthusiasts is mastering their craft. Four dedicated Premier Showmen 4-H Club members recently attended a specialized goat clinic, learning everything from proper grooming to showmanship strategies. On a more sobering note, columnist Rory Ryan highlights the deadly reality of distracted driving, recounting two near-miss collisions on State Route 247 – a stark reminder that those text messages can wait until you're safely parked.

📱 Cell phone drivers create deadly highway hazards in Ohio. Columnist Rory Ryan recounts two near-miss collisions on State Route 247 where distracted drivers on phones nearly caused head-on crashes. Ohio law prohibits holding phones while driving, with penalties including fines up to $500 and license points. Despite 397 people killed in cell phone-related crashes last year, Ryan observes many drivers ignoring the law and questions whether police are issuing enough citations.
