Fayette County • August 18, 2025
Good morning, Fayette County. Talk about a major upgrade for county operations! The acquisition of the former Schwan's building for $275,000 marks a strategic move that solves multiple storage challenges while potentially creating a new recycling hub. This practical purchase eliminates the need for an expensive new maintenance facility, demonstrating thoughtful stewardship of county resources. Meanwhile, preparations are underway for America's 250th anniversary, with each township invited to plant a white oak tree in a heritage ceremony that connects our community to the nation's milestone celebration.
The changing political landscape brings Highland County its first contested mayoral race in over a decade, as Greenfield transitions from a city manager system to an elected mayor. And in a celebration of agricultural tradition, fifteen-year-old Eloise Roehm now wears the crown as the 2025 Highland County Lamb and Fleece Queen, with sisters Clare and Chloe Fullenkamp serving as Princesses – the next generation of leaders in our farming community.

🏢 Highland County buys former Schwan's building for $275,000. The county commissioners approved the purchase of the 212 Hobart Drive property to serve as a maintenance facility and potential recycling area. The existing building will provide storage for equipment currently scattered across multiple locations, saving the county from constructing a new maintenance barn. In other business, officials announced a September 26 heritage tree-planting ceremony at Liberty Park, with each township invited to sponsor a white oak tree as part of America's 250th anniversary celebrations. The county also extended a timeline for Greenfield's infrastructure project and accepted a donated K-9 officer for the Sheriff's Department.
👑 Highland County crowns new Lamb and Fleece royalty. Fifteen-year-old Eloise Roehm was named the 2025 Highland County Lamb and Fleece Queen, representing Fairfield High School and its FFA chapter. Sisters Clare and Chloe Fullenkamp, ages 10 and 9 respectively, were crowned as Princesses during the ceremony. Both princesses attend Hillsboro schools and are active members of the Premier Showmen 4-H Club. The Highland County Shepherds Club organizes this annual tradition celebrating youth involvement in agriculture.
🗳️ Highland County voters face first Greenfield mayoral race in over a decade.
