Good morning, Fayette County. History comes alive this week as we uncover the legacy of Revolutionary War veteran Anthony Sonner, whose military service in the Virginia Militia ultimately led him to Highland County, where he established what would become Sonner's Chapel. The 82-year-old patriot's lasting impact—from building mills to raising seven children with his wife Elizabeth—reminds us how a single life can shape a community for generations to come.

Literature takes center stage at the Ohio State Fair, where Second Lady Usha Vance delighted young listeners with a reading of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" as part of her summer reading initiative. Meanwhile, local residents have a practical opportunity to make history of their own this Saturday by participating in Hillsboro's tire and electronics recycling event—turning environmental responsibility into community action from 8 a.m. to noon at the North High Business Center.

🪖 Revolutionary War veteran Anthony Sonner helped establish a historic Ohio church. Born in 1760 in Virginia, Sonner served seven months in the Virginia State Militia during the American Revolution before moving to Highland County, Ohio in 1814. There, he and his wife Elizabeth established what would become Sonner's Chapel, a United Brethren Church named in his honor. The Revolutionary War pensioner built a grist and saw mill on his Ohio property, raised seven children with Elizabeth, and was buried in Sonner Cemetery upon his death in 1843 at age 82.
