Good morning, Fayette County. After four decades of transforming lives, KAMP Dovetail stands as a testament to what dedicated volunteers can accomplish. What began with just 10 campers has blossomed into an extraordinary program serving 300-400 special needs children each year, offering experiences from horseback riding to pontoon boat adventures that many families couldn't otherwise afford. The program's growth reflects a community that understands the value of creating opportunities for every child, regardless of ability.

Meanwhile, two significant revivals are making headlines across the county. Safety Town has returned after a 20-year hiatus, with founder Ann O'Neill herself cutting the ribbon on this beloved children's safety education program. On the infrastructure front, Ohio legislators are tackling the state's lead pipe crisis with a bipartisan bill that would mandate replacement of all lead water lines within 15 years—an ambitious $5 billion project aimed at protecting families from serious health risks.

♿ KAMP Dovetail transforms lives for hundreds of special needs children. Highland County Commissioners praised the 40-year-old camp that offers unique experiences like horseback riding and pontoon boat trips on Rocky Fork Lake. The program hosts 300-400 campers supported by over 200 volunteers who prepare massive meals and create opportunities many families couldn't otherwise afford. Commissioners highlighted how the camp provides scholarships to help families whose budgets are often strained by special needs care. The event has grown exponentially from just 10 initial campers to become what Commissioner Roades called a "huge deal" for handicapped kids.

🚰 Ohio's lead pipe crisis demands a $5 billion solution. A bipartisan bill would require all lead water pipes statewide to be replaced within 15 years, targeting Ohio's 745,000 active lead lines—the third-highest count nationwide. Representatives Jarrells and Blasdel are championing House Bill 307, which builds on a Biden administration ruling giving water systems 10 years to replace lead pipes. Columbus plans to replace 2,100 lines this year and nearly 50,000 by 2037, while officials debate how to fund the massive infrastructure project that protects families from lead-related health issues including developmental delays and neurological damage.

🏙️ Safety Town returns, honoring the woman who started it all. After a two-decade hiatus, the beloved children's safety education program has been revived in Washington Court House, Ohio, with a special tribute to founder Ann O'Neill. Fire Chief Tim Downing led the effort to bring back the program at the Fayette County Family YMCA, where children learn about fire safety, traffic rules, and emergency preparedness in an engaging environment. During an emotional ribbon-cutting ceremony, O'Neill herself was honored, surrounded by family as she inaugurated this new chapter of the program she established in the 1980s. Numerous community partners collaborated to make the revival possible, including local fire departments, schools, and health organizations.
