📰 Community heartbeat

Good morning, Fayette County. The heart of a community often beats strongest in the people who dedicate their lives to serving it. Such was the case with "Bo" Narcross, whose passing at 81 leaves Greenfield reflecting on decades of leadership, service, and those legendary smoked pork tenderloin sandwiches that became as much a part of local tradition as his 60 years as a Mason. His legacy of community-building stands in stark contrast to this week's concerning road rage incident that fortunately ended without physical injuries despite the alarming violence.

Amid these human stories, our animal companions face their own crisis as Fayette Regional Humane Society struggles with unprecedented overcrowding. With 129 animals currently under their care and more arriving daily, the newly restructured "Foster Friends" program and reduced adoption fees offer a lifeline for both the shelter and the many cats and kittens hoping to find forever homes this summer. Sometimes the most meaningful community service comes with four paws and a purr.

🐾 Fayette Regional Humane Society drowns in animals, launches desperate rescue effort. The Ohio shelter is currently housing 129 animals, well over capacity, with more than 30 sick or injured cats brought in this June alone. To address this crisis, FRHS has restructured its foster program as "Foster Friends," appointing Trina Wilson as its first full-time foster care coordinator. The shelter is also offering reduced adoption fees throughout June—$70 for kittens and $25 for adult cats—with all animals receiving necessary medical care before adoption. "We are overwhelmed and out of space," said Dr. Lee Schrader, FRHS executive director, "but we will never stop showing up for hurt and abandoned animals."
