Good morning, Fayette County. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but in our community, it's the children who are building the village. East Clinton's "Kids Care" program has elementary students hammering away at charitable projects—quite literally in their recent Habitat for Humanity fundraiser where they raised over $1,100 and signed actual 2x4s that will become part of someone's future home.
Meanwhile, 4-H members are planting seeds of growth with their creative flower display, where each bloom represents an individual member's development. And as these young leaders flourish, we bid farewell to a different kind of community servant—K-9 EDO, whose watch ended after nearly a decade of dedicated service to the Washington Court House Police Department. His legacy reminds us that whether on four legs or two, service leaves lasting impressions on our community.

🌸 4-H members craft giant flower display to celebrate their growth. Premier Showmen created a special yard installation at the Hamilton family home for Highland County 4-H week. The display features a large flower pot with individual blooms representing each member, symbolizing their personal development through the program. This creative project highlights both individual achievements and the collaborative spirit central to 4-H values. The display serves as a colorful testament to the positive impact the organization has on young people in the community.
🏫 East Clinton students build giving hearts through after-school program. The "Kids Care" program engages 40-60 elementary students in creating charitable projects after regular school hours. Led by educator Cheryl Roberts since 2011, these fourth and fifth graders have supported veterans, therapy animals, and various community causes. Recently, they raised over $1,100 for Habitat for Humanity's 50th Clinton County home by selling paper hammers and signing actual 2x4s that will be used in construction. The program teaches children that giving back is just as important as traditional academic subjects.
🐾 Loyal K-9 EDO's watch ends after nearly a decade of service. The Washington Court House Police Department is mourning their retired police dog who passed away on May 2, 2025. EDO served alongside his handler, Ptl. Charles Hughes, from November 2014 until his retirement in March 2022. "With sadness, we announce our loyal K-9 EDO passed away," the department shared in a social media post, concluding with "Now he can rest because his duty is complete" followed by "E.O.W." (End of Watch).
