🏠 New roots growing

Fayette County • April 7, 2025

Good morning, Fayette County. April 6-12 is shaping up to be a week of meaningful community connections across our area. From the poignant candlelight vigil honoring crime victims at the Highland County Courthouse to Carnegie Library's celebration of National Library Week, there are powerful opportunities to experience what this year's victims' rights theme calls "KINSHIP" – our shared humanity that brings us together in both celebration and remembrance.

Meanwhile, the landscape of Washington Court House is literally changing before our eyes. Tuesday's groundbreaking for Bishop Estates marks the beginning of a transformative housing development that will bring 149 new homes to our community over the next 27 months. With streets named after trees and construction happening in three carefully planned phases, this partnership between JLB1 Properties and DR Horton represents a significant investment in our city's future growth.

The Highland County Commissioners have proclaimed April 6-12 as National Crime Victims' Rights Week, with a special vigil planned for April 11 at the courthouse. Organized by the County Victim Witness office, the event will display nearly 50 photos of victims dating back to 1978, creating a space for remembrance and community healing. Director Ashley Sanders describes it as "a memorial service" where attendees can bring photos of loved ones lost to violence, crashes, or other tragedies. The vigil aligns with this year's national theme of "KINSHIP," emphasizing shared humanity in supporting crime survivors.
