Fairfield County • October 7, 2025
Good morning, Fairfield County. Newark's dining scene is evolving once again as Mariposa Mexican Restaurant served its final enchiladas this past weekend. The 5 N. 3rd St. location won't stay empty for long, though – a new concept called Stockyard Grill is already preparing to fire up its grills, adding another chapter to the area's ever-changing culinary story.
In more somber news, the Fayette County community is mourning 62-year-old John Landman, who lost his life when his Harley Davidson failed to navigate a curve on Good Hope New Holland Road. Meanwhile, a different kind of curve – the arc of dedicated public service – has earned State Senator Terry Johnson recognition from the VFW as Legislator of the Year. The former Army colonel, who served two tours in Iraq before retiring as the Army Guard's State Surgeon in 2011, continues his mission by championing veterans' causes in the legislature.
