Fairfield County • July 3, 2025
Good morning, Fairfield County. Over $125,000 has vanished from Ohioans' wallets, according to Attorney General Dave Yost, who's taking legal action against three businesses accused of collecting payments without delivering promised services. The lawsuits target companies allegedly leaving customers with unfinished home renovations, missing car parts, and misrepresented services—a stark reminder that consumer protection remains an ongoing battle in our communities.
Meanwhile, two groups are battling forces beyond their control this week. Local wheat farmers gathered at OSU's Small Grains Field Day to strategize against fungus outbreaks, unpredictable weather, and market uncertainties affecting Ohio's third-largest grain crop. And in a different kind of deployment, approximately 160 members of the Ohio National Guard's 1487th Transportation Company are preparing to depart for southwest Asia, where they'll provide crucial support for Operation Spartan Shield—a mission to strengthen defense relationships throughout the region.

⚖️ Ohio AG takes on three businesses for allegedly scamming customers. Attorney General Dave Yost filed lawsuits against companies accused of taking money without delivering promised services. The suits target Marioth Custom Construction for delayed remodeling, Weapon X Motorsports for unfulfilled car parts orders, and TS Relief Group for misrepresenting services. Collectively, these businesses allegedly cost Ohio consumers over $125,000. Yost seeks restitution for affected customers, civil penalties, and injunctive relief to stop deceptive business practices.
🌾 Ohio wheat farmers battle nature and markets to stay profitable. Around 50 farmers and international scholars gathered at Ohio State University's Small Grains Field Day to learn about managing wheat diseases and improving yields. As Ohio's third largest grain crop, wheat faces challenges including fungus infestations, changing weather patterns, rising fertilizer costs, and export uncertainties. Farmers like Owen Niese are working to expand international market access, recently hosting grain mill leaders from South America and meeting with Vietnamese trade delegates. Despite these challenges, local growers remain committed, with one farmer noting, "Agriculture is the biggest business in Ohio, not manufacturing."
🪖 Ohio National Guard unit heads to southwest Asia for deployment. About 160 members of the 1487th Transportation Company will support Operation Spartan Shield in the U.S. Central Command area. A call-to-duty ceremony is scheduled for Thursday at Piqua High School. Task Force Spartan aims to strengthen defense relationships and build partner capacity in the region. While deployed, the unit will provide transportation support to various units throughout the area.
