Good morning, Fairfield County. In the dark hours of early Friday morning, a stolen Chevrolet Tahoe's violent rollover crash on Winchester Pike became a stark reminder of how quickly life can change. The fatal accident, which ejected the driver from the vehicle, adds another sobering chapter to our local traffic safety concerns as authorities work to identify the person who lost their life in those twilight hours.

Meanwhile, July will bring significant mail for homeowners as property value reassessments arrive across the county. Auditor Dr. Carri Brown offers reassurance that higher valuations won't necessarily mean proportional tax increases, thanks to Ohio's protective legislation. On a more somber note, William and Bobbi Jo McFarland will soon be released from prison after an appeals court decision regarding their sentences in the tragic case involving their disabled sonβ€”a development that has stirred complex emotions throughout our community.

🏠 Fairfield County property values getting a summer update. Homeowners will receive new property value notices in July as part of a state-mandated six-year reassessment process. County Auditor Dr. Carri Brown reassures residents that higher valuations don't automatically mean proportionally higher taxes, thanks to Ohio House Bill 920 which adjusts tax rates downward. The increases reflect strong market demand as more families move into the growing community. Property owners who disagree with their new valuations will have opportunities to challenge them through informal hearings or formal appeals once the letters are approved by the Ohio Department of Taxation.

βš–οΈ Parents who neglected disabled son to be released from prison. A Rockbridge couple, William and Bobbi Jo McFarland, will be freed after an appeals court overturned their consecutive sentences for charges related to their son's death. Joshua McFarland, who had cerebral palsy, was found severely malnourished with bedsores when he died, having not eaten for days prior. The couple had originally received five-year prison terms after pleading guilty to failing to provide for a functionally impaired person. Judge Goldsberry adopted the prosecutor's recommendation to run their sentences concurrently, meaning they've already served sufficient time.
