Good morning, Fairfield County. The future of sustainable living has arrived in Central Ohio as mechanical engineer Steven Rhodes completes the region's first Phius-certified passive house. This remarkable Clintonville home consumes less than half the energy of standard new construction while maintaining exceptional comfortβa testament to what determination and expertise can accomplish, even when installing 12-foot windows solo. Rhodes has now transformed his passion into a consulting career, helping others achieve similar environmental and energy-saving goals.
Meanwhile, nostalgia blooms in two delightful forms across the county. The Eagle-Gazette's photo gallery captures the glamour of prom season at five local high schools, showcasing crowned royalty and formal finery at venues from Little Brook Meadows to Grand Oaks. Additionally, after a 34-year intermission, Berne Union High School returns to musical theater with "The Addams Family," featuring 31 students bringing the kooky, spooky family to life April 25-27.

π Engineer builds Ohio's first certified passive house from scratch. Steven Rhodes, a mechanical engineer turned passive house consultant, constructed Central Ohio's first Phius-certified home with help from friends and family. The Clintonville home uses less than half the energy of a standard new build, with solar panels offsetting its minimal electricity needs. Rhodes designed every aspect himself, from detailed construction drawings to energy modeling, and even performed challenging tasks like installing 12-foot-high windows alone. Now working as a building designer and consultant, Rhodes hopes to help others create similarly sustainable, high-performance homes.
