🌧️ Rainy weekend alert

Fairfield County • April 3, 2025

Good morning, Fairfield County. Mother Nature is about to make her presence known in a major way across north central Ohio. With the National Weather Service issuing flood watches and forecasting a drenching four to six inches of rain through Sunday, residents are facing a potentially dangerous weekend. The stark reminder that just 12 inches of rushing water can carry away most vehicles serves as a critical warning for anyone considering that "shortcut" through standing waterβ€”especially since flooding remains the deadliest thunderstorm-related hazard.

On brighter notes, Hocking Valley Community Hospital's surgery department has received five new patient monitors thanks to the generosity of local donors, enhancing care for patients during critical procedures. Meanwhile, cat owners looking to be part of the solution to pet overpopulation can mark their calendars for April 5, when the Pet Orphanage will begin registration for free spay/neuter clinics at the Hocking County Fairgrounds. As always in our community, challenges come with corresponding acts of compassion.

🌧️ Ohio braces for dangerous flooding as heavy rains approach. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for north central Ohio, with four to six inches of rain expected through Sunday morning. Multiple storm systems will bring moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, high winds, and occasional hail to the region. Officials warn that flooding is the deadliest thunderstorm-related hazard, with over half of flood-related drownings occurring when vehicles drive into hazardous water. Residents are reminded that just 12 inches of rushing water can carry away most cars, and to never drive around barriers blocking flooded roads.
