🚨 Local tragedies unfold

Fairfield County • March 11, 2025

Good morning, Fairfield County. A grim discovery in the woods along Geiger Road has launched a full-scale investigation as human remains found by a local resident now sit with the Coroner's Office awaiting identification. Sheriff Alex Lape's team is working to piece together this unsettling puzzle while simultaneously investigating a heartbreaking tragedy on Columbus-Lancaster Road, where a devastating house fire claimed the lives of 81-year-old Jaunita Shaeffer and her 56-year-old relative, Michael Shaeffer, early Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, the typically tranquil Cherry Hill neighborhood in Pickerington is reeling after 19-year-old Samuel Stallworth allegedly shot and killed 23-year-old Kamal Walters following a dispute inside a home on Montmorency Drive. The incident has rattled residents like Joel Roberts, who discovered a bullet hole in his own home months ago, and Hannah Sparks, who worries about children playing in what was once considered a peaceful cul-de-sac. Despite the shock, neighbors expressed relief at the swift police response.

Magnificat's Blue Streaks saw their season come to a close Sunday as Pickerington Central's Tigers clawed their way to a 49-41 victory in non-league action. The Rocky River squad kept things competitive but ultimately couldn't match Pickerington's defensive pressure down the stretch. The Blue Streaks can hold their heads high after a solid campaign, though they'll be left wondering what might have been against those pesky Tigers from central Ohio.
