🌟 Local heroes shine

Fairfield County • January 13, 2025

Good morning, Fairfield County. In a world that often feels short on heroes, Toni Ashton stands as a beacon of hope in our community. The newly crowned Public Health Guardian Award recipient isn't just changing lives - she's saving them, transforming how our county approaches mental health and substance abuse with the kind of dedication that makes Mr. Rogers look like a casual volunteer.

Meanwhile, a taste of Nashville is simmering its way into Grove City's heart, as restaurant veteran Myles Deschner prepares to turn a former music shop into Broadway Standard. There's a certain poetry in transforming a place that once sold guitars into one that'll serve up the kind of Southern comfort food that makes your soul sing. Between that and the Miller Farms development taking a thoughtful pause, it seems change is the only constant in our corner of Ohio these days.

🍳 Nashville food guru brings Southern comfort to Ohio's heartland. Restaurant manager Myles Deschner is transforming a Grove City music shop into Broadway Standard, a cozy Southern-style diner serving elevated breakfast and lunch classics. The new spot will initially seat 70 guests with plans for outdoor patio expansion, operating daily from 7:00am to 2:30pm with eventual dinner service. Drawing from his decade of Nashville restaurant experience, Deschner aims to recreate the warm, family-style dining atmosphere of a Southern grandmother's kitchen. The establishment will feature craft cocktails and local brews alongside its Southern menu, though an opening date hasn't been announced yet.

πŸ—οΈ Canal Winchester housing project hits pause button amid community feedback. The developer of "Miller Farms," a massive 95-acre development in Canal Winchester, Ohio, has requested to delay the rezoning decision for further discussion. The original plan called for 444 mixed housing units, including single-family homes, apartments, and townhouses, plus 4.6 acres of commercial space. Recent revisions to the proposal banned convenience stores, guaranteed fee-simple townhome lots, and promised $1.72 million in annual school tax revenue. The development would preserve nearly 36 acres as open space, exceeding minimum requirements by 12.5 percent.
