Good morning, Dublin. The walls of Bridge Park are coming alive with color as Chilean master artist Alejandro "Mono" González joins forces with local talent Adam Hernandez for a stunning new mural installation. This eight-by-eight-foot cube celebrates both Ohio's natural beauty and diverse cultural heritage, showcasing everything from blue herons to Taíno sun glyphs in a vibrant display that literally brings art out of the gallery and into our community spaces.
Art continues taking center stage as filmmaker Fred Kudjo Kuwornu's documentary "We Were Here" challenges our understanding of Renaissance Europe through its portrayal of Black diplomats, merchants and free citizens. Meanwhile, campus development gets back on track with Crawford Hoying selected to build the long-awaited hotel and apartment complex near Ohio State, adding 145 rooms and 120 apartments to University Square. Construction is expected to begin in late 2026.

🎨 Dublin's new mural brings community and international art together. Columbus residents joined Chilean artist Alejandro "Mono" González and local artist Adam Hernandez to create an eight-by-eight-foot cube installation at Bridge Park. The collaborative project celebrates nature and ecology, featuring elements like a blue heron representing Ohio's environment and a Taíno sun glyph honoring Hernandez's Puerto Rican heritage. González, recipient of the 2025 National Prize for Visual Arts by the Chilean Ministry of Culture, emphasized the importance of community engagement in his work. The mural painting coincides with González's exhibition at the Dublin Arts Council, running through October 30.
🎬 Italian filmmaker uncovers hidden Black European Renaissance history. Fred Kudjo Kuwornu's documentary "We Were Here" challenges the notion of an all-white Europe through interviews with historians and art experts. The film highlights how many Africans in Renaissance Europe were ambassadors, diplomats, merchants, and free citizens—not just slaves. Born to an Italian mother and Ghanaian father, Kuwornu brings personal perspective to this project that showcases Black figures across the social spectrum. The documentary screens Thursday at the Wexner Center for the Arts, followed by a panel discussion aimed at expanding American audiences' understanding of Black European history.
🏨 Ohio State's stalled hotel project springs back to life. Crawford Hoying has been selected to develop the long-awaited hotel, apartment, and parking complex at 15th Avenue and Pearl Alley in Columbus. The 2.5-acre project will feature a 145-room hotel with ground floor and rooftop dining options, approximately 120 apartments, and a 430-space parking garage. This development represents the next phase of the University Square district, which began transformation in 2015 with several completed buildings already serving the campus area. Construction is expected to begin in late 2026, pending approval from local review boards.
