Good morning, Dublin. Wine enthusiasts, raise your glasses! Columbus has earned impressive recognition from Wine Spectator with ten elite restaurants making their prestigious list. The Refectory leads this sophisticated collection with a staggering 675 wine selections, while establishments across neighborhoods from German Village to Easton collectively house thousands of bottles. These destinations offer the perfect backdrop for celebrating special occasions—or simply Tuesday evening.
While local restaurants flourish with extensive wine collections, small businesses across industries face a persistent challenge: finding qualified workers to fill open positions. NFIB's latest report reveals 36% of small business owners had unfillable job openings in June, with construction and manufacturing particularly affected. Meanwhile, a Hudson nonprofit learned an expensive lesson about election transparency, receiving a $50 fine for failing to disclose support for local candidates—a violation some supporters dismissed as merely a "paperwork error."

💼 Small businesses can't fill jobs despite desperate hiring efforts. According to NFIB's latest report, 36% of small business owners had unfillable job openings in June, up 2 points from May. Finding qualified workers remains a top challenge, with 50% of hiring businesses reporting few or no qualified applicants. Job openings were highest in construction, manufacturing, and transportation industries, while 33% of owners reported raising compensation—the largest monthly increase since January 2020. Ohio officials believe the newly signed state budget will help strengthen the small business economy and workforce development.
⚖️ Ohio nonprofit fined $50 for improper election activities in Hudson. The Ohio Elections Commission ruled that Clocktower Collaborative violated state statutes by failing to disclose support for Hudson City Council candidates. Complaints alleged the nonprofit acted as an unregistered political action committee coordinating with candidates Patricia Goetz, Michael Bird, and Madeline Lepidi-Carino, who were required to report these as in-kind contributions. While Council President Foster called it "obviously a PAC" designed to "evade Hudson campaign finance laws," supporters dismissed the violation as merely a "paperwork error" and noted other related complaints against the candidates were previously dismissed.
