Good morning, Dublin. As one in four SNAP recipients potentially face benefit reductions, Columbus food pantries are bracing for impact. Broad Street Presbyterian Food Pantry, already serving 22% more households than last year, fears they'll be overwhelmed if proposed cuts to the federal nutrition program materialize. Director Kathy Kelly-Long's concerns highlight the growing gap between community needs and available resources in our changing economic landscape.
Meanwhile, the culinary scene offers brighter news as local baker Timbo Sullivan showcases Columbus talent on Food Network's "Super Mega Cakes," now streaming on Max. Sullivan's hyperrealistic creations are putting our city on the national stage, much like Barrio Burrito Bar, which chose Morse Road for its first Ohio location. The Canadian chain celebrated its Columbus debut with $5.99 burritos and plans to open nearly a dozen more American stores soon.

🍲 Food pantry fears SNAP cuts will deepen hunger crisis. A Columbus food pantry is sounding the alarm as Senate Republicans pass a bill slashing $300 billion from SNAP benefits. Broad Street Presbyterian Food Pantry, which already serves 22% more households than last year, worries they won't be able to meet growing demand if SNAP restrictions increase. Director Kathy Kelly-Long criticizes the proposal that could reduce or eliminate benefits for one in four recipients, including veterans and homeless individuals. "We're taking food away from hungry people in order to give tax breaks to wealthy people," she warns.
