Good morning, Dublin. Behind every emergency call answered, there are extraordinary individuals ready to spring into action. Ohio recently celebrated these everyday heroes at the Star of Life Awards, honoring exceptional EMS providers like Spirit Emergency Medical Services and Clinton Township Fire Chief Brian Fraley who transform critical situations into stories of survival. These professionals represent the best of human capability—adapting their skills to overcome challenges when seconds count.
Summer's landscape continues to evolve around central Ohio, with Columbus' North Bank Park fountain making way for a wedding-focused brick patio and ceremonial archway. For families seeking adventure, Cincinnati Zoo offers a different animal experience just two hours away—where lions roar at closer range and celebrity hippo Fiona holds court. While smaller than our Columbus Zoo, many Dublin families find the compact urban setting perfect for a memorable day trip when seeking a change of wildlife scenery.

🚑 Ohio honors heroes who save lives in emergencies. The Star of Life Awards recognized outstanding EMS providers during the annual EMS Week celebration in Columbus. Spirit Emergency Medical Services earned Agency of the Year, while Clinton Township Fire Chief Brian Fraley was named EMS Provider of the Year. The ceremony highlighted professionals who "quickly adapt their training and skills to overcome highly challenging circumstances" to help strangers in need. Other honorees included medical directors, educators, and eleven fire departments recognized as "Ohio EMS Stars."
💦 Columbus park's splash pad to be removed for wedding space. The North Bank Park fountain, which has faced maintenance issues, will be replaced with a brick patio and metal archway for ceremonies. Columbus Recreation and Parks officials explained that the change aligns with how the space is primarily used as a rental facility. Stone blocks from the demolished Ohio Penitentiary will be repositioned to create seating near trees. The city plans to later add public art or an interactive element while continuing to invest in aquatic facilities elsewhere.
🦁 Cincinnati Zoo offers a different vibe from Columbus' beloved attraction. A father and his kids discovered the Cincinnati Zoo provides closer proximity to animals, with memorable experiences like hearing lions roar and watching ant colonies through tunneling systems. While Columbus Zoo may be bigger with more interactive opportunities, Cincinnati boasts celebrity resident Fiona the Hippo and a more compact urban setting that's easier to navigate in a day. Both zoos feature similar rides and comparable food options, making Cincinnati worth the two-hour drive for families seeking a change of zoo scenery.
