๐ŸŒช๏ธ Storm watch

Dublin • April 3, 2025

โ€‹

Good morning, Dublin. Severe weather is barreling toward Franklin County with a potential cocktail of damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes. Emergency officials are monitoring the situation in real-time, coordinating with meteorologists to keep residents informed as the storm develops. Now's the time to review your family emergency plan, understand those crucial weather alert differences, and ensure your emergency kit is stocked with essentials. Remember: basements and interior rooms become your sanctuary when sirens sound.

In brighter news, Dublin's police department is taking to the skies this spring with four autonomous drones capable of reaching emergencies in about 90 seconds. Meanwhile, composer Brian Harnetty is transforming personal grief into orchestral beauty with "The Visitor," premiering April 6. His dream-inspired composition, featuring lush brass harmonies, offers a poignant exploration of loss and connectionโ€”proving that sometimes our most profound emotions find their voice through music.

๐ŸŽต Composer transforms personal grief into orchestral dream sequence. Brian Harnetty's new composition "The Visitor" premieres April 6 with the Greater Columbus Community Orchestra, inspired by a profound dream he experienced before his mother's death. The piece explores themes of connection, intimacy, and the complex emotions surrounding loss, featuring lush brass harmonies that build with static harmony and slow movement. This work joins Harnetty's recent series of family portraits, including "The Workbench" about his father and upcoming projects based on his grandparents' sheet music. For Harnetty, music has always been his way of processing life's experiences, often triggering physical sensations he describes as "a fever chill of joy."

๐Ÿš Dublin police will deploy drones to respond to emergencies this spring. The department is launching four autonomous drones stationed across the city that can travel at 45 mph and reach any location in about 90 seconds. These aerial responders will assist with various situations including alarm calls, missing persons, fleeing suspects, traffic accidents, and suspicious activity reports. According to Sergeant Andrew Clark, the Drone Unit supervisor, having eyes on the scene before officers arrive will make responses safer and more efficient. Each drone can fly for approximately 30 minutes and can be piloted remotely from anywhere in the city.
