🛒 Retailers rush to snatch up shuttered Big Lots spaces. Aldi, HomeBuys, Tractor Supply, and Burlington are among chains acquiring former Big Lots locations, including one in Pickerington, Ohio. The Columbus-based retailer is undergoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization with 200 stores expected to continue under new operator Variety Wholesalers, which plans to keep the Big Lots name. Ollie's Bargain Outlet has been the biggest beneficiary so far, taking over 63 former Big Lots sites. The Ohio survival plan includes four Columbus market locations that will remain open.

Allan Poklar, known affectionately as "Big Al" due to his outsized personality rather than his physical size, passed away after living a vibrant life characterized by his quirky, fun-loving nature and strong work ethic. Born in 1942 in Euclid, Ohio, he transitioned from a teaching career to sales, bringing his charm and systematic approach to both professions. More than anything, he cherished his family, including his late wife Nancy, his sons Eric and Adam, daughter-in-law Abby, and four grandchildren. Allan left behind a legacy of laughter, fond memories, and love, with those who knew him considering themselves better for having had him in their lives.
