Dev Test County • September 3, 2025
Good morning, Dev Test County. The beats of DJ Sober will once again fill the air at the State Fair of Texas this year, as Oak Cliff's own Will Rhoten brings his musical talents back to the iconic venue. Despite his stage name, this longtime Elmwood resident isn't actually in recovery—he simply chose to focus on his craft rather than the party lifestyle that often accompanies DJ culture. His upcoming set promises a nostalgic blend of Cumbia, 70s rock, and classic artists that honor the Fair's rich history.
Across the county, vibrant celebrations of Hispanic heritage are taking center stage from September 15 to October 15. From the Dallas Arboretum to Fort Worth Botanic Garden, these family-friendly festivities feature traditional dance, live music, authentic cuisine, and artisan markets—many with free admission. Meanwhile, the community mourns a tragic loss after 21-year-old Dortae Jarmal Ross was found fatally shot in Dallas's Cedar Crest neighborhood early Saturday morning, with police still searching for answers.

🎧 DJ Sober brings his beats back to the State Fair of Texas. Will Rhoten, known as DJ Sober, has been a fixture in Oak Cliff's Elmwood neighborhood for decades while building a successful DJ career that began when he was just 16. Despite his stage name, Rhoten isn't actually in recovery—he earned the nickname by choosing to focus on music rather than partaking in the "wild lifestyle" of the DJ scene. For this year's State Fair set, he plans to incorporate music that resonates with the venue's history, including Cumbia, 70s rock, and artists like Fleetwood Mac and Rolling Stones. Rhoten appreciates the Fair's commitment to showcasing local talent like himself.
