Good morning, Dev Test County. Dallas is showing its true colors this summer as Dallas Does Dance celebrates its newly acquired nonprofit status, bringing more accessible dance opportunities to the LGBTQ+ community and allies. This milestone achievement transforms the organization's fundraising capabilities while cementing its place in the local arts landscape—proof that creative expression continues to flourish across our community despite challenging times.
Meanwhile, two very different approaches to creating change are making waves across the metroplex. At the College of Constructive Hell-Raising, everyday citizens are learning the fine art of "good trouble" through community organizing tactics, while Dallas police have taken a more direct approach with Operation Justice Trail, netting 99 fugitives with outstanding felony warrants. The summer initiative highlights law enforcement's partnership with US Marshals to target individuals allegedly responsible for a disproportionate amount of local crime.

💃 LGBTQ+ dance organization achieves nonprofit status in Dallas. Dallas Does Dance has officially received 501(c)(3) designation from the IRS, recognizing it as a public charity. This milestone allows the organization to expand fundraising efforts and offer tax-deductible benefits to donors. Dedicated to providing accessible dance education and performance opportunities for the LGBTQ+ community and allies, the group has quickly become a notable presence in the local arts scene. Their commitment to inclusivity aims to foster a love of dance, build community, and create a more expressive world.
🔥 Dallas activists learn to raise hell for social change. The College of Constructive Hell-Raising, founded by environmental activist Jim Schermbeck, teaches ordinary citizens how to become effective community organizers. Since 2017, students have learned about pivotal Dallas activism history, including the closure of toxic sites and civil rights movements. Participants develop practical skills for challenging the status quo through tactics like community organizing, strategic campaigning, and persistent advocacy. Graduates have gone on to lead important environmental justice initiatives across Dallas, continuing the legacy of "causing good trouble" for positive community change.
🚨 Dallas police arrested 99 fugitives in Operation Justice Trail crackdown. The summer initiative, a partnership with US Marshals, targets violent criminals with outstanding felony warrants. The June arrests included 77 men and 22 women who collectively had 616 prior arrests for serious crimes including murder, assault, and child abuse. Police Chief Daniel Comeaux stated, "Our goal is simple: to make Dallas the safest large city in America," noting that a small percentage of criminals cause a disproportionate amount of crime. North Texas Crime Stoppers is offering $1,000 rewards for tips leading to felony warrant arrests through August 31.
