Good morning, Dev Test County. Infrastructure woes are taking center stage in Dallas this week. A major crash on U.S. 75 near the I-635 interchange has created a traffic nightmare, with southbound lanes completely shut down and drivers scrambling for alternate routes. Meanwhile, City Hall is literally underwater after a broken toilet pipe flooded multiple floors of the 1978 building, forcing officials to relocate meetings and highlighting the city's ongoing maintenance challenges.

In a bright spot amid these disruptions, Dallas Hope Center—the county's only LGBTQIA+-focused transitional living facility—just received a powerful boost from Green Mountain Energy. Their $121,000 Sun Club grant will provide solar power, battery storage, and an electric vehicle, saving the center $13,500 annually while supporting their critical work with homeless youth. The sustainable upgrades will help power their mission of developing self-sufficiency skills for up to eight young adults at a time.

💧 Dallas City Hall's Council Chambers flooded by broken toilet pipe. The weekend flood forced officials to relocate meetings to a briefing room and hold them virtually. Water damage affected multiple floors of the 1978 building, with standing water discovered on the third, fourth, and fifth floors. This isn't the first infrastructure issue at City Hall—last week, officials revealed Dallas spends only half what's needed to maintain its buildings. The city's water mitigation contractor estimates cleanup will take three to five days, with impacted departments working remotely until at least May 29.
