💰 Millionaire magnet

Good morning, Dev Test County. The healthcare landscape is shifting as federal regulators tighten their grip on private equity's involvement in anesthesia services. The FTC's recent order restricting New York-based Welsh Carson's control over Dallas-based USAP marks a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to address concerns about monopolization in medical services across Texas, where the provider controls nearly half the market in major metropolitan areas.

Meanwhile, Dallas continues cementing its reputation as a wealth magnet, now ranking 6th nationally with over 72,000 millionaires calling the city home. This 85% surge over the past decade puts Texas in the unique position of being the only state with three cities in America's top 10 millionaire hubs. The prosperity narrative stands in stark contrast to public safety concerns after a Tuesday night altercation outside a Dallas store escalated to gunfire, leaving two people wounded and a suspect still at large.

💉 Private equity firm ordered to limit control of major anesthesia provider. The Federal Trade Commission has finalized an order restricting New York-based Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe's involvement with Dallas-based U.S. Anesthesia Partners (USAP). The settlement resolves a 2023 lawsuit alleging USAP monopolized anesthesia services in Texas by acquiring numerous practices, controlling 40-50% of the market in Dallas and Houston by 2014. Under the order, Welsh Carson must notify the FTC of future acquisitions in anesthesia services. Meanwhile, the FTC's case against USAP itself continues in federal court, following similar anticompetitive allegations in Colorado.
