Good morning, Dev Test County. After 46 years of rolling perfect sushi and orchestrating theatrical teppanyaki displays, Otani Japanese Restaurant is preparing to write its final chapter. The Mayfield Heights institution that introduced Ohio's first sushi bar back in 1978 - when most locals thought raw fish was just bait - will serve its last magnificent meals on March 16. Talk about the end of an era.
Speaking of traffic-stopping news (pun absolutely intended), State Route 43 got an unexpected intermission Tuesday morning when a semi decided to take an unscheduled break north of Frost Road. Thankfully, Streetsboro's finest quickly turned this potential gridlock drama into a brief intermission, and the show is back on the road. Just another reminder that even our commutes can serve up surprising plot twists.

🍜 Iconic Ohio Japanese restaurant says sayonara after 46-year run. Otani Japanese Restaurant in Mayfield Heights announced its final service will be March 16, marking the retirement of owner Janet Yee. The pioneering establishment, which opened in 1978, introduced Ohio's first sushi bar and brought traditional Japanese dining to Northeast Ohio. Over the years, Otani evolved to include vegan options and ramen, while maintaining its beloved teppanyaki and horigotatsu-style dining experiences. The Yee family, who joined as investors in 1985, expressed deep gratitude to customers they've come to consider family.
