Dev Test County • February 17, 2025
Good morning, Dev Test County. February is serving up a double helping of community spirit this week. While the Aquatic Center transforms into a little slice of Italy, complete with homemade wine and enough dancing to make your nonna proud, Mount Union's Sigma Nu fraternity is proving that brotherhood extends well beyond campus borders with their creative "Night of Nuggets" fundraiser for the Dunmire family.
And heads up, Charlestown commuters - your daily route might need a detour next week. The Esworthy Road bridge is taking a brief intermission for some maintenance work, but don't worry - local officials have orchestrated this disruption like a well-conducted symphony, coordinating with schools and township trustees to keep the show running smoothly.

🚧 Local bridge closure will disrupt Charlestown traffic next week. The Esworthy Road bridge between State Route 5 and Newton Falls Road will be closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. Drilling operations at the bridge necessitate the temporary shutdown. The Portage County Engineer's Office has coordinated with Southeast Local School District's bus garage and Charlestown Township trustees to minimize disruption.
💝 Two strokes hit father and son from same family in Stow, Ohio. Mount Union's Sigma Nu fraternity is organizing "A Night of Nuggets" fundraiser to support the Dunmire family, where both father Todd and his 13-year-old son Luke suffered strokes months apart. Todd, a 1998 Mount Union graduate, experienced his stroke in October, while Luke's occurred on January 30th. The family, including Mount Union alumna Amanda and 16-year-old daughter Ella, will receive all proceeds from the $6 nuggets-and-drinks event at the fraternity house. Supporters can also contribute through Venmo to help the family during this challenging time.
🍷 Homemade wine brings Italian flair to Mayfield Heights community celebration. Over 200 residents gathered at the Aquatic and Community Center for the annual Taste of Italy dinner event on February 15. The festive evening featured live music, dancing, and plenty of homemade wine samples. Now in its second year at the new venue, this cherished tradition has been bringing neighbors together for more than a decade.

Streetsboro's 68-11 demolition of Bard Early College had fans checking if the scoreboard was malfunctioning - it wasn't. The Rockets soared to 19-3 on the season, while leaving the Raptors searching for answers and possibly a new offensive coordinator. In a nail-biter that had cardiologists on speed dial, Tallmadge squeaked past Gilmour Academy 37-36. The Blue Devils' one-point victory proved that sometimes the best things come in small margins.Aurora's 49-30 road win over Chardon showed the Greenmen don't need a winning record (11-12) to play winning basketball. The Hilltoppers learned the hard way that these visitors came to do more than just admire the local foliage.
