Darke County • October 20, 2025
Good morning, Darke County. The crisp October air has brought a flurry of fall festivities to our region, despite Mother Nature having her own plans. At the Historic Fall Trade Fair, visitors stepped back in time at Johnston Farm with cannon displays and traditional craftsmanship like Mike Collier's broom-making demonstrations—though Sunday's activities fell victim to severe weather. Meanwhile, downtown Piqua buzzed with seasonal energy during Harvest Fest, where families (and even 8-year-old Gracie) gathered among pumpkins and hay bales for a quintessential autumn celebration.
While some were picking pumpkins, others were primping poultry at Greenville's Eastern National IWBA competition. The tension was palpable as junior contestants awaited Judge Keith Lutz's careful inspection of their prized birds. Behind the scenes, handlers Dustin Drake and Terry Britt wrangled runner ducks while competitors employed special techniques—including bluing rinse—to make their feathered friends shine. From chickens to geese, this annual gathering celebrated the fine art of poultry husbandry in all its glory.
