Cuyahoga County • October 22, 2025
Good morning, Cuyahoga County. The shores of Lake Erie are making national headlines as Cleveland earns the unexpected title of "hottest new cruise destination in North America." With a record-breaking 53 cruise ships bringing 8,700 visitors and injecting over $2 million into local businesses this season, our waterfront renaissance is in full swing. The maritime momentum continues as American Cruise Lines prepares to make Cleveland their first Great Lakes home port in 2026.
While the arts community prepares to celebrate the 65th Cleveland Arts Prize this Wednesday—a distinction as the nation's oldest municipal juried arts award—the community also mourns the loss of 50-year-old Jermaine Warith following last month's shooting at an East Cleveland gas station. The $10,000 prizes awarded to emerging and established artists across disciplines offer a bright counterpoint as authorities continue their investigation into the tragic incident.
