Good morning, Cuyahoga County. A media milestone is unfolding in downtown Cleveland this week as thousands of Black journalists gather for the 50th NABJ convention. The Huntington Convention Center is buzzing with nearly 4,400 media professionals seeking career development opportunities—a welcome infusion of energy in a city where journalism jobs have been steadily shrinking. This historic gathering aims to address the fact that Black journalists currently represent just 6% of reporting journalists nationwide.

August is shaping up to be quite the celebration month in The Land. Machine Gun Kelly Day returns for its third year with an expanded three-day takeover featuring concerts, skateboarding competitions, and community events benefiting local schools. Meanwhile, the WKYC newsroom welcomes fresh talent with the arrival of Amaya Ward, a passionate journalist from Oklahoma City known for her community-driven reporting and empathetic storytelling approach.
