Cuyahoga County • June 10, 2025
Good morning, Cuyahoga County. The aroma of authentic Mexican cuisine is about to fill Shaker Square as Coyoacan Taqueria & Brew opens its doors on June 10, bringing not just one but two distinct dining experiences under a single roof. The venue will also house the revival of beloved Luchita's Mexican Restaurant, creating a culinary double-feature that promises to spice up the neighborhood's dining scene with fresh flavors and familiar favorites.
Elsewhere in our community, urban beekeeper Trey Williams is creating quite the buzz with Hood Honey, transforming Cleveland neighborhoods through sustainable agriculture and community empowerment. Meanwhile, cycling enthusiasts might soon enjoy extended adventures along the 101-mile Towpath Trail, as Destination Cleveland works to transform this recreational pathway into a tourism powerhouse. With plans inspired by Pennsylvania's successful Great Allegheny Passage, our own trail could become an overnight destination generating significant tourism dollars while showcasing Northeast Ohio's natural beauty.

🌮 Shaker Square welcomes two Mexican restaurants under one roof. Coyoacan Taqueria & Brew opens June 10, bringing fresh Mexican cuisine to the Cleveland neighborhood. The space will also house the return of beloved Luchita's Mexican Restaurant, giving diners two distinct dining options in the same location. Both restaurants will operate within a shared venue, creating a unique Mexican food destination for local residents. The dual-concept approach represents a culinary boost for Shaker Square's dining scene.
🐝 Urban beekeeper transforms Cleveland neighborhood with honey and hope. Trey Williams, founder of Hood Honey, has turned his passion for beekeeping into a community uplift project in Mt. Pleasant over the past five years. What started with just two hives has expanded to five urban farm sites across Akron and Cuyahoga County, with Williams and his partner Alex Polley cultivating bees, growing vegetables, and creating natural products. The operation now offers free workshops, partners with local businesses like "dopest soap," and has plans to combat food insecurity by sharing harvests with churches and daycares. Hood Honey's mission extends beyond agriculture—it's about empowering the Black community and creating sustainable change in urban neighborhoods.
🚲 Northeast Ohio's Towpath Trail could become a cyclist's overnight paradise. Destination Cleveland is spearheading efforts to transform the 101-mile trail into a tourism destination by assessing amenities like lodging, dining, and bike services along the route. The nearly-complete trail runs through four counties, connecting Cleveland to Dover while passing through cities, towns, and natural areas including Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Officials are looking to emulate the success of Pennsylvania's Great Allegheny Passage Trail, which attracts 170,000 overnight cyclists annually who spend an average of $496 per visit. Adding more camping options and cyclist-friendly services could help the Towpath reach its full tourism potential.
