🧾 Tip troubles

Columbus • March 7, 2025

Good morning, Columbus. A simple restaurant receipt has ignited a firestorm in Central Ohio, where a real estate agent's xenophobic message left on a Latino server's bill resulted in her termination from CENTURY 21. The incident, which made national headlines in PEOPLE Magazine, serves as a stark reminder that in our increasingly divided society, businesses are drawing clear lines about acceptable conduct – especially when the target was actually a natural-born U.S. citizen.

Meanwhile, the irony isn't lost on Franklin County residents that an Assistant City Attorney campaigning for Columbus City Council has her own compliance issues to address. Tiara Ross, who earns a six-figure salary helping others navigate legal matters, recently cleared nearly $3,800 in parking tickets accumulated outside courthouses. Despite this stumble, her boss remains firmly in her corner, highlighting her advocacy for residents of troubled apartment complexes – proving that even those who enforce rules occasionally find themselves on the wrong side of them.

🌮 Realtor fired for hateful, anti-immigrant message on restaurant receipt. A Central Ohio real estate agent left "ZERO. YOU SUCK. I HOPE TRUMP DEPORTS YOU" instead of a tip at Cazuela's Mexican restaurant. Despite crossing out her name, the second receipt copy revealed her identity to staff. PEOPLE Magazine reports the server was actually a natural-born U.S. citizen of Latino descent. CENTURY 21 Real Estate terminated the agent's affiliation, stating "Hate has no place within the CENTURY 21 brand."

🚗 Columbus City Council candidate racked up nearly $3,800 in parking tickets. Tiara Ross, an Assistant City Attorney making over $130,000 annually, also allegedly drove on a suspended license while campaigning for the District 7 seat. Ross explained that her tickets accumulated from parking at courthouse meters while attending meetings that ran long. She has since paid off all tickets and had her license reinstated. Despite these issues, Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein defended Ross's work ethic, citing her efforts helping residents at troubled apartment complexes.
