Good morning, Clermont County. The Queen City is about to transform into the music capital of the Midwest as the 63rd Cincinnati Music Festival kicks off this Thursday. From hip-hop pioneers like Scarface and the Sugarhill Gang to legendary acts including Earth, Wind & Fire, LL Cool J, and Toni Braxton, the three-day celebration promises to fill Paycor Stadium with unforgettable performances and vibrant energy that extends beyond the main stages to marketplace events and special celebrations.

In the realm of education, two ambitious initiatives are taking shape across the region. Lakota Schools is proposing a $506 million facilities overhaul that would significantly reduce student transitions between buildings, while Newport has launched "Read Ready Newport" to address concerning kindergarten readiness rates. With only 20% of Newport children currently prepared for kindergarten, the community-wide approach aims to make learning resources more accessible without additional financial burden on the city.

🏫 Lakota Schools' $506 million plan would slash student transitions. The district's proposed facilities overhaul would consolidate grade configurations, reducing disruptions as students progress through their education. If voters approve November's bond issue, the plan includes four new K-5 schools and renovations to existing buildings, with some older schools potentially closing. West Chester Township trustees expressed concerns about school locations and the financial impact on residents, particularly seniors on fixed incomes. Through Ohio's partnership program, Lakota qualifies for 32% reimbursement on approved project costs, with implementation beginning in 2028.

📚 Newport's bold plan tackles dismal kindergarten readiness rates. The Newport City Commission has launched "Read Ready Newport," an initiative to make learning resources more accessible to families with young children. Inspired by Covington's success, the program will be funded by EducateNKY and won't require financial expenditure from the city. A coordinating group including city officials, schools, libraries, and community leaders will guide the effort. Only 20% of Newport children are currently kindergarten-ready, a statistic city leaders are determined to improve through this community-wide approach.
