🍕 Pizza showdown

Clermont County • July 23, 2025

Good morning, Clermont County. The numbers don't lie – Sharonville Convention Center's expansion has created an economic ripple effect that's transforming the Northern Lights district at twice the expected pace. With its 24th hotel breaking ground and unique amenities like free parking (a convention planner's dream), Sharonville has cleverly positioned itself while downtown's Duke Energy Center undergoes renovations. This strategic timing demonstrates how sometimes opportunity isn't just about location, but perfect timing.

Meanwhile, the great pizza debate has been settled – at least until the next ranking. Dewey's Pizza has claimed Cincinnati's pizza crown, with hometown favorite LaRosa's taking silver and Adriatico's rounding out the top three with its legendary Bearcat pie. In sadder news, Loveland has lost its journalistic cornerstone with the passing of David Miller, whose Loveland Magazine provided both community news and mentorship to budding photographers for two decades.

☕️ What's Brewing Locally

🏨 Sharonville's convention center expansion sparks economic boom in Northern Lights district. The area is celebrating the groundbreaking of its 24th hotel, a new LivSmart by Hilton designed for extended stays near the recently expanded convention center. Since doubling its exhibit hall space to 40,000 square feet in February 2024, the Sharonville Convention Center has nearly doubled its economic impact in just two years instead of the projected five. The center now offers unique amenities including a restaurant and bar, plus 1,000 free parking spaces—a significant advantage that has helped it maintain a packed schedule with only three weekends available last year. While the downtown Duke Energy Convention Center undergoes renovations, Sharonville has capitalized on the opportunity, securing some events permanently while maintaining its complementary role in the region's convention ecosystem.

🍕 Cincinnati crowns Dewey's Pizza as its ultimate pie champion. A local pizza showdown ranked the top 10 spots in Greater Cincinnati, with Dewey's Pizza claiming the #1 spot for its unique dough-tossing windows and seasonal offerings. LaRosa's Family Pizzeria, a Cincinnati culinary icon, secured second place, while Adriatico's Pizza rounded out the top three with its bold, spicy sauce and legendary Bearcat pie. The rankings excluded national chains, focusing exclusively on local favorites that have been serving the community for decades. From deep-dish Chicago style at Mio's to New York slices at Ramundo's, the list celebrates Cincinnati's diverse pizza landscape.

📰 Loveland's voice goes silent as local journalism pioneer dies at 76. David Miller, founder of Loveland Magazine, spent two decades chronicling his Ohio community's events and issues through the online publication he created in 2004. Remembered as a "warm, open presence," Miller provided a platform for residents to share opinions and gave students opportunities to practice journalism. Photographers Sam Smith and Joe Timmerman credit Miller as a mentor who was deeply invested in environmental conservation and community uplift. His legacy includes numerous accolades and a lasting impact on those he mentored in photojournalism.
