Good morning, Athens County. Tucked away on the fifth floor of Alden Library lies a time machine of sortsβ€”the Mahn Center archives, where millions of historical treasures from 13th-century Bibles to campus protest photographs await curious hands. With just 1% digitized, this remarkable collection offers something the internet can't: the tactile thrill of holding history, reminding us that the past isn't just something to studyβ€”it's something to touch.

Meanwhile, America's most mysterious native fruit took center stage at the 27th annual Pawpaw Festival, bringing together farmers, foodies, and the pawpaw-curious in Albany. While Ohio State maintained their #1 ranking despite a competitive showing against our own Bobcats, the real local champion might be this uniquely Appalachian fruit that's building community one perishable, impossible-to-find-at-Kroger bite at a time.

πŸ“š Hidden treasures await at Alden Library's Mahn Center archives. The fifth-floor facility houses millions of historical items, from rare manuscripts to university memorabilia, available for students and the public to explore. Though only about 1% of the collection has been digitized, staff work diligently to make materials accessible both online and in person. Visitors can handle priceless artifacts like a 13th-century handwritten Bible or browse through photographs of campus protests and historic events. Open weekdays by appointment, the center encourages hands-on engagement with history, as one intern noted: "The more you know about the past, the more you can write the future."

🍐 Ohio's Pawpaw Festival celebrates America's most elusive native fruit. The 27th annual event in Albany brought together pawpaw enthusiasts and curious visitors to honor this uniquely flavorful but highly perishable fruit that can't be found in supermarkets. Local vendors, farmers, and researchers showcased pawpaw-inspired foods, drinks, and educational exhibits, creating what festival founder Chris Chmiel calls "a seasonal ritual for families." Beyond celebration, the festival supports initiatives like Project Pawpaw, which has planted thousands of trees and aims to develop improved varieties that could help small farmers diversify their operations. For many participants, the weekend isn't just about sales but about building community around this distinctive North American treasure.
