Good morning, Athens County. The winds of change are sweeping through Ohio's higher education landscape as universities implement Senate Bill 1, with OU sunsetting 11 degree programs and merging others. These difficult decisions reflect a new reality where programs awarding fewer than five degrees annually face elimination, though currently enrolled students can still complete their degrees and no faculty layoffs have been announced.

Meanwhile, Bobcat pride soared to new heights this weekend as Ohio's defense stonewalled West Virginia in a thrilling 17-10 victory at a packed Peden Stadium. The celebration extends beyond athletics to academics, with OU's Voinovich School securing $62,000 from Battelle to expand STEM education throughout Southeast Ohio. This funding will create a regional hub connecting schools, businesses, and organizations—strengthening both educational opportunities and community partnerships across the region.

No faculty layoffs have been announced, and currently enrolled students can complete their degrees. Programs being cut span humanities, arts, sciences, and specialized fields like aviation technology.

🏈 Ohio stuns West Virginia 17-10 in defensive showdown. The Bobcats used a suffocating defense to overcome three Parker Navarro interceptions and defeat the Mountaineers on Saturday at a sold-out Peden Stadium. With starting running back Jahiem White injured, WVU's offense was stonewalled, managing just 77 rushing yards while quarterbacks Marchiol and Henderson faced constant pressure. Coach Rich Rodriguez took responsibility for the poor execution, saying "I will do a better job and we'll get better from this." The Mountaineers (1-1) now look ahead to their rivalry game against Pitt next Saturday.
