Good morning, Athens County. Those professors with packed bookshelves and coffee-stained lecture notes? They're more than just academic gatekeepers—they're potential mentors waiting to share wisdom beyond syllabi. Recent studies confirm what successful students already know: building relationships with faculty through casual coffee chats or office visits doesn't just provide course insights and recommendation letters; these connections significantly reduce academic stress while opening doors to internships and research opportunities.

Meanwhile, a defensive transformation is underway for Ohio's football program after losing eight linebackers this offseason. New head coach Brian Smith wasted no time rebuilding, bringing in graduate transfers Makel Williams and Cameron Hollobaugh to join veteran Jack Fries. And for students juggling academics and finances, mark your calendars—September 12 is the deadline to secure health insurance through OU's $1,422 plan or submit documentation for your existing coverage. The clock is ticking on this essential requirement.

Students at all levels benefit from these relationships, whether it's showing initiative as a freshman or securing recommendation letters as a senior. The author encourages treating these interactions professionally while remembering professors are people with colorful life experiences to share.

🏈 Ohio rebuilds linebacker corps after losing key defensive stars. The Bobcats lost eight linebackers this offseason, including starters Kadin Schmitz and Shay Taylor who followed former head coach Tim Albin to Charlotte. New head coach Brian Smith quickly hit the transfer portal, bringing in graduate students Makel Williams and Cameron Hollobaugh to bolster the depleted unit. Only four linebackers returned from last season, with Jack Fries being the most experienced after playing all 14 games. The team also added three freshmen recruits and hired 30-year coaching veteran Chris Woods to lead this revamped linebacker group.

🏥 OU students must choose health insurance by September 12. The university requires all Athens campus students to maintain coverage, either through the university plan or an outside provider. For Fall 2025, the university plan costs $1,422 and covers August 20 to February 19, with varying copays based on service type. Students can opt out by completing a waiver that carries over for Spring and Summer 2026. First-time waiver applicants who meet specific criteria can apply for a courtesy late waiver within 30 days of the deadline.
