Good morning, Athens County. The holiday season may still feel distant with summer's warmth lingering, but ABC Players is already decking the halls with auditions for "A Christmas Story, the Musical" kicking off August 23-24 at Stuart's Opera House. From Ralphie's quest for his coveted Red Ryder BB gun to roles for participants of all ages, this beloved holiday classic offers performance opportunities for the entire community, with shows running December 5-7.

While theatrical dreams take shape, real-world drama continues at Nelsonville City Hall as council members petition the Ohio Supreme Court to reconsider dismissing their ballot candidate removal request—arguing they met filing deadlines "to the letter." Meanwhile, Athens County's real estate market shows remarkable vitality with 19 properties changing hands for nearly $4 million, including luxury homes commanding $645,000+ and potential development opportunities as buyers acquire multiple adjacent properties.

At issue is whether candidates running under "Issue 23" - a voter-approved initiative changing the city's government structure - should remain on the ballot after the council voted to repeal the measure.
