Good morning, Athens County. The city's parking meters have become quite the municipal cash cow, with Athens raking in a staggering $1.5 million from parking tickets in 2024 alone. That's over 12,000 tickets issued, representing a $75,428 increase from last year. The five parking enforcement officers patrolling the streets aren't just writing tickets for expired metersβ€”they're handling everything from sidewalk violations to maintaining the meters themselves.

In brighter news, Ohio Athletics welcomes a new talent to the Bobcat family as Miya Garrett steps into her role as Associate Athletics Director of Brand Advancement. The Toledo native brings nearly a decade of experience from Arkansas State University, where she enhanced digital platforms and improved donor engagement. Meanwhile, the community continues to process last week's tragic incident at Beasley Mill apartments, where police investigation remains ongoing after a 70-year-old man took his own life following the shooting of a female victim.
