Athens County • July 8, 2025
Good morning, Athens County. June 30th marks a turning point for anyone buying or selling property locally, as revised land conveyance standards take effect. County Auditor Jill Davidson and Engineer Jeff Maiden have collaborated to streamline the property transfer process, creating clearer guidelines that should prevent unnecessary rejections while maintaining important legal distinctions for family exemptions. The updated standards, now available on the county auditor's website, aim to bring consistency and fairness to all real estate transactions.
On the heartwarming front, Linda Bullock has transformed personal loss into community gain by donating her $1,500 Community Builder Award to the York Township Fire Department where her late husband volunteered. And there's reason to celebrate academic achievement too, as the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio distributes over $700,000 in scholarships, including awards to two promising Highland County students pursuing their college dreams at Marietta College and Oklahoma State University.

📝 Athens County updates land rules for clearer property transfers. The revised conveyance standards, effective June 30, aim to improve consistency and fairness for everyone involved in real estate transactions. County Auditor Jill Davidson worked with Engineer Jeff Maiden to clarify requirements and prevent unnecessary rejections of property transfers. Despite public requests to expand family exemptions for transfer fees to include relationships like cousins and nephews, officials maintained existing definitions based on clearly defined legal relationships. The new standards, available on the county auditor's website, represent collaboration between county offices to ensure consistent review of subdivisions and parcel splits.
