Good morning, Athens County. A new chapter for Glouster is being written with the groundbreaking of a $2.8 million revitalization project. The historic Knights of Pythias building will soon transform into a small business hub while Memorial Park receives much-needed upgrades to baseball fields and playground equipment. It's a powerful reminder that even our smallest communities—this one with just 1,556 residents—can experience remarkable renewal when investment targets the intersection of history, economy, and community needs.

Meanwhile, Nelsonville faces a peculiar governmental gap this December when most council terms expire before the new system begins, creating a month-long void in leadership. In brighter news, local baseball fans have reason to celebrate as hometown talent AJ Dallmayer announces his transfer from Lake Erie College to Ohio University while spending his summer with the Chillicothe Paints—keeping his promising athletic career firmly rooted in southeast Ohio.

🏗️ Small Ohio village begins $2.8 million revitalization project. A groundbreaking ceremony in Glouster marked the start of transforming the Knights of Pythias building into a small business hub and coworking space. The project, funded through the ODNR's Abandoned Mine Land Revitalization program, will create venues for food entrepreneurs while bringing fresh produce options to the community of 1,556 residents. Glouster Memorial Park will also receive upgrades including a new information office, improved baseball fields, and playground equipment. The initiative represents a larger effort to invest in the historic coal mining community's environment, economy, and residents.

🗳️ Nelsonville faces a city council void this December. The problem stems from a ballot initiative that abolished the city's charter government, leaving a gap when most council terms end November 30 before the new government starts January 1. Candidates can now file to run for special one-month December terms, but those already running for January positions cannot run for both offices. Meanwhile, the city is transitioning to a ward system, though current officials lack authority to create the wards that future council members will represent.
