Athens County • April 3, 2025

Good morning, Athens County. The soundtrack of success is playing loudly at Ohio University, where the Music Industry Summit has evolved into the Midwest's largest gathering of industry professionals. Now in its seventh year, this three-day event brings 70+ music experts to campus, creating career-launching opportunities for students—including one freshman who landed an internship interview simply by showing up. Meanwhile, as OU navigates complex questions around diversity programs, the institution finds itself at another pivotal moment in its centuries-long relationship with equity and inclusion.

The rhythm continues beyond campus as Glouster prepares for a musical treat on May 2nd. The Ames-Bern Ridge Rounders will transform Sedalia Crossing Park into a dance floor with their blend of country, western swing, blues, and early jazz from 6-8 PM. Grab your chair and head to 55 High Street for this free community concert that promises to have toes tapping across from Dirty Girl Coffee in historic downtown.

🎓 Ohio universities face tyranny as DEI programs crumble. The article traces Ohio University's complex history with civil rights, from its founding ideals to its discriminatory practices against Black students and women. Early racial barriers included banning out-of-state Black students and segregated housing, while progress emerged in the 1960s through increased diversity initiatives. Recent decisions to pause Black Alumni Reunions and end DEI programs at Ohio universities signal a concerning reversal of decades of progress. The author warns these actions threaten both educational institutions and the republic itself.
