Good morning, Athens County. A powerful message will echo through campus on April 6th as Ohio University's Take Back the Night event unites the community against violence. Starting at 7 p.m. in the Baker Center Ballroom, this annual gathering amplifies survivor voices and transforms solidarity into action through a collective march that reminds us all that healing happens in community. Meanwhile, sustainability meets style as the OHIO Thrift Market pops up on April 4, bringing secondhand treasures directly to students who face transportation barriers to off-campus shopping.
If that's not enough Bobcat energy for you, the OHIO Dance Team is leaping into an action-packed spring season. From their free showcase on April 6 to representing the university at national competition in Orlando, these dancers embody the spirited determination that defines our community. Whether marching for change, shopping sustainably, or performing with precision, Athens is showing up in meaningful ways this April.

๐ Ohio University brings thrift shopping to campus for students without cars. The OHIO Thrift Market, a pop-up event on April 4, will feature secondhand items from local stores like UpCycle Ohio and Goodwill. Research by the Voinovich School found transportation was the biggest obstacle preventing students from accessing thrift stores off-campus. The market aims to support the growing "Generation Thrift" trend, with over 60% of Gen Z consumers purchasing secondhand items due to cost savings and sustainability interests. Open to the public from 1-6 p.m., organizers hope this event will lead to regular pop-ups throughout the academic year.
