A housing quest, a wild plant hunt & stuffed animals after dark 🌙
Good morning, Meigs County. Two serious stories are leading the week here at home — a house fire on Wetzgall Street that brought four fire departments running, and a sobering in-custody death following a violent confrontation with deputies, now under independent state review. Both are still developing, and we'll keep you updated as answers emerge. Meanwhile, nationally, cooler inflation numbers gave Wall Street a reason to exhale, and Boeing landed a fighter jet contract that gave its stock a jolt.
When the news feels heavy, it helps to have something on the calendar — and October is delivering. Dragon Tales Book Club kicks off Sunday, The Great Housing Quest lands the 10th, and Not Your Mama's Book Club closes out the month's first stretch. Fresh real estate listings and local sports scores are inside too.

Suspect dies in-custody of Meigs County deputies after reported break-in
⚖️ A break-in suspect died in custody after a violent struggle with deputies. On Sept. 23, Meigs County deputies responded to a reported home invasion on State Route 248 in southeast Ohio, where the suspect fled on foot before fighting officers — kicking, punching, and biting them. Deputies deployed a Taser, but it failed to subdue the man, who briefly seized the device before being restrained in handcuffs and leg restraints. He lost consciousness before being placed in a patrol cruiser and later died at a local hospital. A forensic autopsy found no apparent injuries, and toxicology results are pending as Ohio's Bureau of Criminal Investigation conducts an independent review. Read more
