Strangers got flowers β and it changed everything πΈ
β
Good morning, Athens County. Sometimes the most powerful thing a person can carry is a single flower. Local scouts from Troops 1053 and 7053 proved exactly that this week, handing out blooms tagged with crisis resources and handwritten encouragement to strangers across Athens β and by all accounts, it worked. Meanwhile, Homecoming has officially taken over town, with Bobcat spirit running high ahead of Saturday's parade and football game. The energy is contagious.
On the gridiron, Friday's Alexander vs. Nelsonville-York showdown has all the makings of an instant classic β two unbeaten squads, two stingy defenses, one scoreboard. After the final whistle, you've got Global Dance Night, an art show, and an acrobatic circus to fill the rest of your weekend. Fresh listings and obituaries are inside too.

βοΈ What's Brewing Locally
Two scout troops, one message of hope
πΈ Local scouts turned flowers into lifelines for struggling neighbors. Troops 1053 and 7053 in Athens, Ohio, partnered during Suicide Prevention Awareness Month to distribute single-stem flowers tagged with crisis resources, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, and handwritten messages of encouragement at local parks, Walmart, and near Ohio University. Scouts also assembled Safe Home Kits and attended a presentation from the Athens County Suicide Prevention Coalition on recognizing warning signs. Recipients stopped to thank the young volunteers, with some saying the unexpected gesture made their entire day. "To anyone struggling, this world is better with you in it," said one scout. Read more

Game of the Week Preview: Alexander @ Nelsonville-York
π Two unbeaten Ohio squads clash in a high-stakes Friday showdown. The Alexander Spartans, fresh off a dominant 49-18 victory over Federal Hocking, travel to face the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes, who blanked Meigs 42-0 earlier this season. Both teams have shown offensive firepower and defensive dominance, setting the stage for what promises to be a compelling matchup. Alexander senior quarterback Carter Jewell will look to lead the Spartans' attack against a Buckeyes defense that has been nearly impenetrable at home. Read more
