A Halloween party in July? Delaware County said why not π
β
Good morning, Delaware County. Five hundred twenty-four overdose-reversal kits distributed from a vending machine in the county jail lobby β in just one year. That number is striking, and the story behind it is one worth reading closely today. On a darker note, a former Powell couple is facing serious federal charges after allegedly bilking Ohio's Medicaid program out of $9.3 million, exploiting refugees in the process. Nationally, the Supreme Court issued a major ruling on tariff authority, the longshoremen's strike wrapped up faster than most expected, and Amazon is making a serious run at Starlink's broadband dominance.
On a much cheerier note, the week ahead has plenty going for it β a golf outing, nature safety skills, and NAMI's Connection Support Group are all on the calendar. Fresh listings are live in real estate too.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office provides update on jail's Naloxone vending machine
π A jail vending machine is quietly saving lives in Ohio. Delaware County's 24/7 Naloxone dispenser, installed in the county jail lobby, has distributed 524 overdose-reversal kits in its first year. Over 700 kits have been ordered, with the sheriff's office noting that "behind every kit is the possibility of a life saved." The initiative is a partnership between the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, Delaware Public Health District, and Project DAWN through the Ohio Department of Health. π° A Ohio couple allegedly stole $9.3 million from Medicaidβthen fled. Roberta Acheampong and Godfred Owusu-Sekyere, formerly of Powell, face 12 felony charges after allegedly billing Ohio's Medicaid program for mental health services never provided through their Franklin County clinic. The couple reportedly exploited refugees seeking resettlement services, billing entire households without their knowledge, while also forging documents and stealing staff identities to submit fraudulent claims. Stolen funds allegedly financed real estate purchases and a Porsche before the pair reportedly relocated to Kenya or Ghana. Ten additional Medicaid providers were separately indicted this week, accused of stealing a combined $563,860. Read more
