Good morning, Delaware County. Big box news: Target is officially coming to Delaware's east side, joining Chick-fil-A, Dunkin', and Nothing Bundt Cakes in the Trailhead Crossing development along Sunbury Road — not a bad stretch of real estate, if you ask anyone's stomach. On a more complicated note, Delaware City Schools earned a near-perfect 4.5-star state rating, yet is somehow among the hardest-hit districts in Ohio when it comes to state funding cuts. Stellar grades, shrinking budget. The district's leadership is pushing back loudly, and rightfully so. On the lighter side of life, this weekend is stacking up beautifully — Uptown Friday Night Music, a Life-Sized Magical Candyland Forest, and Star Wars Trivia Night are all on deck. Fresh listings wait in Real Estate, and Financial Friday has a small savings tweak worth your two minutes. ☕️ What's Brewing Locally Target coming to Sunbury Road 🎯 Target is heading to Delaware, Ohio's east side. The Delaware Planning Commission approved a zoning amendment on Oct. 8 to add 22 acres to the Trailhead Crossing commercial development along Sunbury Road. Target will serve as the project's second phase, following an already-approved first phase that includes Chick-fil-A, Dunkin' Donuts, and Nothing Bundt Cakes. Developer GTZ Properties broke ground on phase one last week and says the Target will be "a big addition to the corridor and community." Final site details, including access points, parking, and landscaping, are still subject to city review. The district earned 4.5 out of 5 stars on Ohio's State Report Card, yet Superintendent Keith Pomeroy says state legislative changes have made DCS the third most negatively impacted school district in the state. Treasurer Jill Corwin drafted an open letter to state legislators urging them to restore the slashed funding. Board member Melissa Harris didn't mince words, saying she's "sick and tired of legislative decisions being made by uneducated individuals" who don't understand how school funding works.
