Good morning, Meigs County. A piece of local history came down last week — the old Rutland Furniture Company building, a structure that lived many lives over more than a century, has been demolished after years of structural decline. It's a bittersweet moment, but sometimes clearing the old makes room for something new. On the national front, Hurricane Isaias is barreling toward the Gulf Coast, Microsoft finds itself in hot water over green-card practices, and the Army's upcoming execution just got an unusually public twist. On a lighter note, October's social calendar is still going strong — Brad McNally brings live music, The Great Housing Quest lands Friday, and Not Your Mama's Book Club is right around the corner. Fresh listings and Financial Friday's emergency fund advice are inside too. ☕️ What's Brewing Locally Former Rutland Furniture Company building demolished after condemnation 🏚️ A century-old Ohio landmark has been reduced to rubble. The former Rutland Furniture Company building in Rutland, Ohio, was demolished after Mayor Tyler M. Eblin condemned it in 2025 due to years of neglect and mounting structural dangers. Originally built in the 1900s as a Knights of Pythias lodge, the structure later housed an American Legion post before becoming a furniture store in 1975. Owner Rutland Bottle Gas contracted Hutton Excavating to carry out the demolition. Village officials called the loss bittersweet but said clearing the site paves the way for future community growth.
